Caring for Your Flat Iron
I know that my GHD flat iron is an essential part of my morning beauty routine - in fact, when I don’t get a chance to flat iron my hair in the morning, I feel positively naked for the rest of the day! That’s why it’s so important to me to make sure that I’m caring for my GHD flat iron properly. I want to make sure I’ll be able to use it to give myself smooth, perfectly straight hair for years to come. Here are some tips that I’ve picked up about properly caring for your flat iron:
- Always unplug after every use.
- Allow to cool completely before putting away. It’s a good idea to buy a special heatproof mat so you can rest your flat iron on it while it cools down. I keep mine on the bathroom counter.
- Don’t wrap the cord around the iron! You’ll seriously damage it over time and it will break. Instead, get a storage case with a separate compartment for the cord.
- Never use abrasive cleaners on the plates, and don’t submerge them in water to clean. Instead, use a special flat iron cleaner you can buy at any beauty supply store to remove product buildup. (If the problem is just a little dust, you can use a soft cloth to wipe off the plates.)
- If the hinge becomes loose, you can tighten it yourself. It’s just a simple screw holding the arms together.
If these tips don’t cover it and you need your flat iron repaired, check to see if it’s under warranty first. You might be in luck!
